This unique project involved extending the back of a lower-ground flat in central London with a full glass extension. Featuring hinged doors, sunken glass beams, and a seamless design that creates an inside-out space, the extension transforms the living area by maximising light and connectivity to the outdoors. Designed with the constraints of tight access in mind, every aspect of the extension was carefully engineered to fit the urban environment.
The full glass extension extends the living space outwards, using sleek hinged doors and large glass panels to create an uninterrupted flow between the interior and exterior. Sunken glass beams allow for a clean, minimalist aesthetic while providing structural support. This inside-out design concept blurs the boundaries between the home and the outdoor area, offering a bright, open atmosphere in the heart of London. The extensive use of glazing ensures that natural light floods the space, making the flat feel larger and more connected to its surroundings.
Given the limited and difficult access to the site, the extension was designed with precision to accommodate the challenges of the urban location. Invisible Windows’ expertise in bespoke glazing allowed for the integration of large glass panels, beams, and doors despite the tight space. The result is a modern, functional extension that not only enhances the aesthetic appeal of the flat but also optimises the use of available space, offering a sophisticated and light-filled environment.
